The Mettler Method® is one of the most fundamental advancements in the rehabilitative field.
Over the past 20 years, Paul R. Mettler, PT, DPT has developed a new technique to treat a wide range of acute and chronic injuries. The Mettler Method allows for the successful identification and treatment of adhesive scar tissue.
Adhesive scar tissue formation is, in most cases, a major contributor of ongoing pain in the musculoskeletal system. Whether inflammation occurs from minor injury such as a mild muscle strain, or from major surgery or trauma, the body develops scar tissue to heal. According to many experts, scar tissue can act like glue, causing independent tissues to adhere together. Movement that stretches or compresses those tissues causes pain. Fortunately, Mettler has developed a unique and effective way to treat this scar tissue.
Dermal-Myofascial Release℠ is a new manual approach for addressing the effect of inflammatory processes on the musculoskeletal system. Recent advances in ultrasound diagnostic technology in the field of internal medicine, clinical dermatology and more recently physical therapy are helping understand this process and why this advanced manual therapy (DMR) is so effective at restoring health to the dermis and underlying myofascia. Through real-time imaging by way of High Frequency Shear Wave Elastography, Dr. Mettler and his associates have been able to confirm how DMR systematically and progressively frees skin and myofascia stiffness or adhesions caused by tissue inflammation.
Once the adhesive scar tissue is treated with Dermal-Myofascial Release, pain is often reduced or eliminated—and movement is usually restored. Normal strength can then be rebuilt.
Whether you’re newly referred to physical therapy or deal with a chronic condition, the Mettler Method will provide immediate, long-lasting results.
