Get to Know: Jami Taylor

Check out this extended interview with personal trainer Jami Taylor!

Backstory: Where it all began

Q: Why did you become a personal trainer?
A: I've had a respect for and fascination with the human body and how it works for many years. After having a career in massage therapy for over a decade, I decided in 2014 to start a complementary career in personal training and rehab fitness. This expanded my understanding of form, function and how injury affects the body, as well as how to prevent and help heal injuries.

Q: Where did your health and fitness journey begin?
A: Possibly as far back as middle school when I started playing softball! Like many people, I had a lull in my physical activity during and after college. But joined a gym for the first time in my early 20's and discovered how much I enjoy strength training.

Q: What is your best health/fitness advice?
A: I think the most important thing for anyone is to find something they will stick to and at least somewhat enjoy—both in fitness and nutrition. Healthy lifestyle over quick fixes.

Current: the here and now

Q: What's your favorite workout?
A: I love doing strength and metabolic circuits, and stair climbing.

Q: What's the fitness mantra you stand by?
A: "Every day is a new beginning."

Q: How do you relax, de-stress and chill out? Or, where would we typically find you on Friday night?
A: Odds are, you'd find me relaxing at home with my guy on a Friday night. I typically relax and decompress by having some quiet time to myself, getting a massage, doing deep breathing/meditationor exercise!

Q: What's one thing you can't live without?
A: C.O.F.F.E.E.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Ice cream!

Q: If you were to win an award, what would it most likely be?
A: "Best laugh" =D So I hear.

Q: What moment are you most proud of in your life?
A: Graduating from my massage therapy program. I had been very unsure of what I wanted to do after high school and during college when I was doing general studies. I tried a couple of majors, but they didn't feel right. I felt so good about my choice to become a massage therapist and have been loving it since 2003!

Q: People may not know you're passionate about…
A: Animals. I love almost all creatures, and have two cats and two dogs.

Future: The best is yet to come

Q: What are some of your fitness goals?
A: Pull-ups are always on my list of things to accomplish. Also to keep on truckin' through the upcoming winter months!

Q: What's something you've always wanted to try?
A: Aerial yoga or pole fitness.
