Get to Know: Bart Lindsay

Check out this extended interview with personal trainer Bart Lindsay!

Backstory: where it all began

Q: Why did you become a personal trainer?
A: Because after having a couple other jobs I asked myself, “What do I like doing, and how can I make money doing it." I’ve always liked to exercise, for whatever reason.

Q: Where did your health and fitness journey begin?
A: At the local Mattoon YMCA when I was about 15. Started working out with a friend before school to get stronger for soccer. Been exercising ever since.

Q: What is your best health/fitness advice?
A: The billion dollar Nike slogan, “Just Do It.” Have some self-discipline and no excuses.

Current: the here and now

Q: What's your favorite workout?
A: At my age now, a nice bodyweight circuit makes me feel the best.

Q: What's the fitness mantra you stand by?
A: Hmm…maybe my advice and mantra are the same…

Q: How do you relax, de-stress and chill out? Or, where would we typically find you on Friday night?
A: Boring…quiet time (because I don’t get much), build something in my workshop or a favorite TV show/movie. Friday night…dinner with my wife is what I prefer.

Q: What’s one thing you can’t live without?
A: My St. Louis Cardinals baseball team—the best team ever!

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: An ice cold beer, or two…

Q: If you were to win an award, what would it most likely be?
A: Not an awards guy and don’t like the spotlight anyway.

Q: What moment are you most proud of in your life?
A: Birth of my kid—easily the most challenging thing I’ve ever done, raising this little rascal. Working to do it well is rewarding.

Q: People may not know you’re passionate about…
A: Passionate may be too strong but I really like woodworking, movies, traveling to new places, kicking my friends’ butts in our fantasy football league, and visiting a good brewery.

Future: the best is yet to come

Q: What are some of your fitness goals or something you’ve always wanted to try?
A: I want to learn one of the martial arts.
