What is ASTYM?

Astym is an instrument assisted manual therapy treatment used to regenerate healthy soft tissues and reduce unwanted scar tissue, which causes pain and restrictions. Using scientifically developed protocols, Astym leverages the body’s natural ability to heal.

How does ASTYM work?

Utilizing specially designed instruments applied firmly along your skin, trained therapists locate and treat dysfunctional tissue, stimulating the healing response in abnormal soft tissue.

Asytm treatment is the regenerative medicine of therapy and is designed to restore soft tissues at a cellular level. It regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and removes unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions.

It was scientifically developed to target the actual cause of the pain rather than just the symptoms. Years of scientific and clinical research conducted at leading universities and hospital systems resulted in Asytm treatment, which now routinely resolves injuries that were previously thought to be permanent.

What causes adhesive scar tissue to form?

Small, repetitive injuries over time, major trauma, as well as a sedentary lifestyle can cause inflammation of the soft tissue, which can lead to the development of adhesive scar tissue.

How long is the treatment process?

ASTYM is never a treatment by itself, but is done in conjunction with other physical therapy treatments. However, a typical course of treatment lasts only four to six weeks (8–10 visits).

Testimonials

“I have been receiving Astym physical therapy from Mettler Center on a periodic basis for over two years to treat a variety [of] soft tissue, overuse injuries resulting from my daily exercise regimen…Astym has repeatedly been demonstrated to enhance my endurance and improve performance. More recently, Astym was successfully applied to counteract the side effects of muscle fatigue I was experiencing, which resulted from months-long use of prescription medicines.  “

DON L.

“I am a true believer in the healing abilities of ASTYM, along with the expertise of my physical therapist, Matthew Gordon. I am beginning to perceive what normal is supposed to be like in the impacted areas of my body that were traumatized over decades by a large brain tumor…Astym therapy has helped to regenerate healthy soft tissue, especially in the constricted muscles and tendons of my legs and feet. To finally have relief from years of severe chronic pain and restricted movement is life-changing!”

DEB B.

“I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis in both feet for about 5 years…I had had PT previously with really no effect at all, but the Astym he described was different than what I’dd had before. This one worked! I can now walk without pain and I have exercises to do at home to keep me this way…If you’re serious about healing, this is the place to go.”
