Meet our founder.

Paul Mettler, PT, DPT graduated summa cum lade in 1981 from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. In the mid-1980s he began to specialize in the treatment of TMJ/TMD and headaches, eventually developing a niche in evaluating and treating this condition while working for a medical clinic in Champaign. He saw an unmet need for this service in Champaign-Urbana and opened an independent physical therapy practice in 1990.

In the early 1990s, Dr. Mettler developed an orthopedic sleeping pillow, testing different designs on his clients. After making improvements based on their feedback, he obtained a U.S. patent in 2000. Dr. Mettler was also granted patents for two other pillow designs. Learn more about the mettler pillow.

He successfully completed the transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 2006. He’s innovator of Dermo-Myofascial Release® via the Mettler Release Technique (MRT®), a soft tissue mobilization technique used to free adhesions in the connective tissue.

In 2015, Dr. Mettler was awarded second prize by the Journal of Bodywork & Movement Therapies for the most clinically useful abstract, Use of High Frequency Shear Wave Elastography To Identify & Evaluate Treatment of Fascial Adhesions, and presented his research at the The Fourth International Fascia Research Congress (FRC) in Washington, DC.
