This month, we're excited to share another success story. This time we highlight a faithful member, Glenn Johnson, who has been dedicated to personal training from the time he began his membership over two years ago. I couldn't do it on my own.

"I Couldn't Do It On My Own."   

What initially brought you to Mettler?

One weekend in particular brought everything to the forefront of my mind. I was playing golf and rode a cart which is something I have rarely done previously. My golfing buddy and I were both complaining about our feet hurting when we did walk the course. We came to the conclusion that our excess weight we were carrying around. Finally, all my clothes were starting to get too tight and I even had a hard time tying my shoes because my stomach was so large.

All these things really bothered me. So that weekend I did a search on my computer and found Mettler Center. I set up an appointment to get started and the rest is history.

Once you joined Mettler Center as a member you immediately started working with personal trainer Eddie and eventually enlisted the help of a Registered Dietitian. How has Mettler Center staff supported you along the way to reach your goals?
Eddie's workouts are never boring and he is always changing things up. Once I started working with Eddie I didn't stop. I do two session with him each week. We really focus on core work so my body doesn't compensate in other areas. I even had a friend tell me "I'm too flexible." Eddie works with me on range of motion and staying loose.

I worked with the Registered Dietitian to find an eating plan that worked for me. I'm now eating more protein/veggies, watching my carb intake, and avoiding Italian restaurants.

How has your body changed since starting a healthier lifestyle?
I feel better about myself and I have lost inches and gain more muscle tone! I started out at 205 lbs. and got down to my lowest of 167 lbs. However, Eddie believes that 172-175 is good for me which I am doing a good job at maintaining, and I'm continuing to work on building muscle mass and toning up.

How did you stay motivated?
I started seeing results, gaining more confidence in myself, and I was visibly getting stronger. I remember the first week I lost 5 lbs. and then shortly after I went on vacation and managed to lose another 3 lbs. I thought, wow if I can lose weight on vacation, I can do anything!

What are your secrets to success?

I needed people to help me. I couldn't do it on my own; so I let the professionals at Mettler Center help me along the journey. I try to stay active at least 5 days a week. Whether I'm looking for strenuous hikes, golfing, or even working out in my home gym. And I eat breakfast every day. After today's workout I'm going home to have bacon, eggs, and chocolate milk!

What is your favorite splurge?
Alexander's Steak House: 10 oz. medium rare filet w/ grilled onions and peppers, salad bar, and home cut steak fries.

How has your transformation affected your life?
It has changed my outlook on life. I feel great and have more confidence. I'm able to do things I could never have done before. I love taking long road trips to National Parks, and most recently I did two very intense hikes. The Bryce Canyon 8.7 miles Figure Eight trail with 1,600 elevation gain and Angels Landing in Zion National Park which is a long steady 2.5 mile climb of 1,488 feet all uphill.

Support Group

Find accountability, motivation, and successful behavioral strategies for maintaining weight in Kruse Control, a monthly support group led by Registered Dietitian, Michaela Kruse.

This group is a safe place to share your challenges/triumphs as you journey toward healthy, and long-lasting weight loss!
