Can you feel summer in the air? Whether you're the type of person in shorts and a tank top on the first nice day or one who doesn't truly celebrate the warm weather until your first Custard Cup snowstorm has melted into a soupy puddle, you're probably well on your way to planning your summer adventures.

At Mettler, we understand that summer means changes, too. We've adapted our group fitness lineup to accommodate more members' schedules. We're also adding favorite summer-only classes like water aerobics.

We're also offering a new nutrition program, "Why Weight?". The program is designed to help you lose as much weight as possible in eight weeks while establishing healthy habits for life.

We know change can be difficult, but we hope you understand that all of the changes we make to our programs are made with you, our members, in mind.

Summer is a perfect time to try a new group fitness class, which is why we're offering many new classes this summer.

For those who crave the mind-body connection of yoga, we are introducing Kripalu Yoga. Kripalu yoga emphasizes breath and creating energy within the body. It also allows the practitioner to choose the level of intensity.

We will also be offering Flow Yoga this summer on Wednesdays, beginning June 9th. Sundown Yoga, a six-week class, will be on offered on Mondays starting at 8 p.m. The class begins June 7th.

Our Water Fitness class, which begins June 7th, is back. Held at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club, the class is offered weekdays. Members and non-members can purchase either a summer pass or a punch card to attend this class. Members receive discounts.

Those who are looking for an extreme strength and conditioning program, may be interested in Mettler Athletic's Boot Camp. This extreme 8-week strength and conditioning program is for anyone and everyone looking for a challenge.

Also, since it's summer, several of your favorite classes will not be offered at their regular times or may be on hiatus until the fall.

    Why Weight? Kicks Off Weight Loss 
Are you looking for a way to get in shape this summer? Check out "Why Weight?". This intense eight-week weight-loss program combines fitness and diet modification to help participants lose as much weight as possible in eight weeks.

Participants will work out with a personal trainer at Mettler Center or Mettler Athletic. In addition to working on your physical fitness, participants will learn how to makeover their diets.

Each participant will have a weekly meeting with our registered dietitian. They'll also receive a free pass to one of our grocery store tours. During the Grocery Store Tour, our dietitian will show participants how to read nutrition labels and pick better foods.

"Why Weight?" is open to both members and non-members. Those who enroll as non-members will receive a membership for the duration of the program.

This way, you and your family will get the veggies they need instead of snacking on foods that provide empty calories. Summer Membership Still Available
Mettler Center and Mettler Athletic will again offer student summer memberships for high school and college students.
 
College students memberships are good from May 1st through August 1st. High schoolers can use their memberships from June 1st through September 1st.

Summer memberships are $150 fee and are pro-rated throughout the summer.

Students will have full use of the facility, access to classes, and an orientation session with a personal trainer.

Runners: Stay Injury Free This Summer
Each day, millions of Americans run. And while we encourage physical fitness, running can cause injury.

Runners who would like to avoid injury should try:

Start slowly and build up slowly  both distance and speed.

Address pain and discomfort as soon as it appears  with ice, rest, or by changing your workouts.

Choose carefully your running surface. Hard or uneven surfaces (or too many hills) can lead to problems.

Consider other types of endurance exercises to give your feet a rest and to provide a better balance to your fitness routine.

Seek evaluation and treatment from a physical therapist to get back on the right track.
