The Mettler Release
Embrace Whole Life Fitness!

Greetings!

Each year, we make resolutions. We want to lose weight, eat better, or stop smoking. And, while it's important to have goals, it's essential that we enjoy the process of realizing them.

Research shows that most people who fail to attain their New Year's Resolutions don't struggle because they aren't working hard. Instead, they struggle because they set goals that were unattainable.

While you're making your resolutions this year, remember goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

Once you've set your goals, remember that the staff at Mettler would love to see you succeed and is here to help.

Good luck on your journey toward Whole Life Fitness!

Take a NuStep in the New Year!
Take a NuStep in the New Year!
If you have a limitation that prevents you from placing much weight on your knees and ankles for long periods or if you simply love trying new exercise options, then we have just the thing for you...the NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer!

The NuStep provides a comfortable, seated position and a smooth stepping motion with simultaneous arm pumping action. The trainer simulates a natural walking motion while eliminating unwanted stress on leg joints. It's a perfect option for those who have experienced knee and hip problems. Others can crank up the tension and test your speed to get a fantastic cardiovascular workout and burn some unwanted calories.

What makes the NuStep distinct from the elliptical or the treadmill is its functionality and versatility. This versatility is evident in the ability to concentrate on movements using all extremities and your trunk without the burden of your body weight on the joints. Functionally, the reciprocal motion of the legs and arms is a movement crucial for walking and other daily activities.

In addition, the NuStep is a great therapy tool. It assists patients who are rehabbing upper extremity, lower extremity, and spinal conditions. Because there is minimal impact on the dysfunctional joints and limbs, it can be used in the early stages of therapy to build strength and endurance. This is particularly helpful for patients recovering from total knee and ankle replacements.

This highly effective machine isn't found at other fitness centers in town, so come in and try it out. We believe it's a great addition to our facility and we love their motto...Transforming Lives!
6 Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer
If you're like many Americans, you started this year with a resolution. You might want to run your first 5K, set-up (and stick to) a fitness routine, or learn how to use all of the weight equipment in the gym.

A personal trainer can help you accomplish each of those goals; but, personal trainers can benefit long-time members, too. Here are some reasons to hire a personal trainer.
  1. You're a complete novice. If the last time you worked out was in your high school gym class, our trainers will evaluate your fitness levels and create a plan that will leave you motivated. You'll also see results as you work toward whole life fitness.
  2. You're new to a certain fitness aspect. You might be a hard-core runner, but if you've never lifted weights before, you could get hurt. A few sessions with a personal trainer can help you acclimate to our weight room and learn great exercises.
  3. You're not motivated to work out. Personal trainers keep you accountable. They'll be there, bright-eyed and ready to go when you walk through the door. They'll push you to do your best work each day.
  4. You're in a rut. If you've been completing the same routines for a while and are starting to get bored, our personal trainers can help you find ways to get your love for whole life fitness back.
  5. You've stopped seeing results. You may still have the passion to work out, but the scale hasn't moved in weeks. Our trainers can teach you new skills or help you tone different muscles so that you don't stray off track for long.
  6. You've set an ambitious goal. Whether you're running your first 5K, completing a triathlon, or hoping to fit into a certain dress for your daughter's college graduation, a personal trainer can help you craft a workout plan that will meet your needs. He or she will make sure you stick with it, too.

    Use Competition To Lose Weight
Losing weight is easier when you're working with others  whether that's a friend who meets you at the gym or a trainer who encourages you. As shows like "The Biggest Loser" have caught on, we've seen how much friendly competition contributes to weight loss. That's why we're proud to announce Mettler's Weight Loss Challenge, which begins January 18th.

In this 10-week program, you'll shed pounds safely using a comprehensive diet and exercise plan. Our personal trainers and Registered Dietitian will help you shed pounds and meet your weight loss goals.

Mettler Athletic and Mettler Center will each field a team for the challenge. Teams will work out in group settings twice a week under a personal trainer's watchful eye. There will be a weekly group fitness class, too.

Don't worry, though. You'll get plenty of individualized attention. Each participant will have an activity goal that they will strive to reach when he or she is not working out with the team. Additionally, each person will have one-on-one meetings with our registered dietitian to discuss how to modify eating habits.

Non-members can participate and receive a complimentary fitness membership while enrolled in the program.

Participants compete for weekly prizes and the title of "Weight Loss Challenge Winner."

If you'd like to get your competitive juices flowing with this unique program, contact Member Services at either Mettler Center or Mettler Athletic.

Shopping Without Dropping!
Shopping Without Dropping!
The holidays may be over, but that doesn't mean that you're done shopping.

Our physical therapists want to keep you safe when you're on the go, so remember to:

1. Distribute the weight of shopping bags (and heavy purses) equally on both sides of your body.

2. Dump everything out of your purse you don't need.

3. Wear comfortable shoes. Carrying packages while wearing high heels can contribute to foot and ankle injuries.

4. Consider a shopping cart to prevent falls on icy pavements.

5. Avoid prime shopping times to keep the amount of time you're carrying heavy items down.

Did you get hurt this holiday season? Whether you slipped, fell, or tweaked a muscle, our physical therapists can help. Call to schedule a free consultation.
