how it works

The science-y stuff behind it all.

The Advanced Vibration Technology concept behind the Power Plate machine was first used by Soviet cosmonauts in the 1960s, to counteract the loss of muscle and bone density caused by the zero gravity conditions in space. In the 1990s, Dutch Olympic trainer Guus van der Meer adapted and improved the technology, first for use by elite athletes and then for everyday users.

Acceleration Training exercise uses the principle of Newton's second law, Force = Mass × Acceleration. Where conventional exercise increases mass, the Power Plate machine increases acceleration through vibration.
Power Plate equipment vibrates up and down to improve muscle tone, and left to right and front to back to aid balance and coordination. The platform vibrates up to 50 times a second.
Power Plate equipment uses PrecisionWave Technology—a high-fidelity harmonic vibration system that provides a controlled level of vibration across all areas of the plate surface for consistent and dependable results.
These vibrations cause the muscles to respond in a reflexive action, multiple times per second.
A full body workout is possible in as little as 15 minutes, and results are possible with as little as two to three short sessions a week
Power Plate machines are certified Medical Devices. Their use can be prescribed as part of a wider treatment program to aid a range of medical conditions.
