Get to Know: Cassandra Griffith

Check out this extended interview with licensed massage therapist Cassey "Cassey" Griffith!

Backstory: where it all began

Q: Why did you become a massage therapist?
A: I knew I wanted to be in a profession that helped people. My massage journey began when I was a student at SIUC. We did a unit on massage, and it really clicked! I decided to come home to pursue massage therapy even though I had never had a massage other than the brief introduction I received in Carbondale. Now I get to help people with pain management and stress reduction on a daily basis. What a treat!

Q: What is your best health/fitness advice?
A: My best wellness advice is to do your best to balance the demands of daily life. Don’t forget to take care of yourself whether that means a work out or a massage. Laugh more and be kind to others because you just never know what someone else has on their plate.

Q: What is your favorite type of massage to give and to receive?
A: I LOVE the heated bamboo massage! The heat really helps relax the muscles. It’s one of my favorite massages to give because it is an unexpected addition to a massage. When I am on the table the heated bamboo is often the massage I pick for myself.

Current: the here and now

Q: What are you doing when you are not at Mettler?
A: I love spending time with family, friends, and of course my beagle, Copper. I am currently helping my boyfriend restore his childhood farmhouse. If I am not at Mettler the chances are I am in full demo mode, or caked head to toe in dry wall dust.

Q: What is your favorite way to de-stress or treat yourself?
A: Grey’s Anatomy and a glass of wine.

Q: What is the most annoying question you get asked?
A: Questions really don’t annoy me. Bring them on!!! I do get asked if my hair is naturally curly a lot... yes it is.

Q: People may not know that you are passionate about...
A: My job! I feel so lucky to be in the career field that I am in.

Q: What is one thing you can't live without?
A: Coffee. My biggest mistake in life is thinking coffee was gross for so many years.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: I love peanut butter.  I will eat it straight out of the jar without any shame.

Q: What is your spirit animal?
A: I love all animals so this is tough... Otters seem to live a pretty great life though.

Q: Pizza or tacos?
A: Pizza- bacon, pepperoni, and pineapple. Don’t knock it until you try it :).

Future: the best is yet to come

Q: What's something you've always wanted to try?
A: To stay in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora!

Q: What are some of your wellness or fitness goals?
A: I would like to get down to the weight that I told the lady at the DMV to put on my driver's license. Not that I am unhappy with my body or my weight. I just feel bad for lying to her....

Q: Where would you like to take your next vacation?
A: Alaska.
